Lockdown is easing, so we are looking at organising White/Yellow spins this Summer.
Obviously, we this will be subject to government and Cycling Ireland guidelines.
As we start to plan (again), it would useful to have some idea of what people want.
The spins committee would be grateful if people would take a couple of minutes to complete this survey with just 10 questions related to organised spins this Summer.

I'll dig into those answers later.
To answer a question I got from a couple of members
Initially our focus will be on White and Yellow groups as traditionally these make up the bulk of riders on club leisure spins. Orange and Red riders tend to be more experienced and have established groups. Generally they don’t need organised spins.
(Red riders typically have different requirements from those of the broader leisure category).
First off, we need a sense for how many people are prepared to lead spins. We would hope that Orange riders would help out here.
The survey captures White, Orange and Yellow riders.
We can add groups for Red Riders if there is a demand for this.
Please use the Other/Comment section on Question 5 to indicate what sort of Red spins would be of interest.

This information will help us to put a plan together based on what you want
(rather than have us guess what we think people want)
It will also help us to take action to put us in a stronger position for Winter spins.
Below are the aggregated results - an some initial thoughts on what we need to do with the data.
135 - Yes | 7 - No | 23 would prefer something different
Takeaway - committee to work on a Summer spin plan
111 - Sat AM | 105 - Sun AM | Weekday PM - 91
Takeaway - committee to consider what can be done pragmatically
Takeaway - there is a demand throughout the summer
48 - White | 81 - Yellow | 36 - Orange
Takeaway - committee to consider
Takeaway - 60-90km spins with some hills would be the most popular spins
34 - White Leader | 47 – White Minder
31 – Yellow Leader | 42 – Yellow Minder
27 - Dispatcher
Takeaways
We have enough dispatchers
If we use each leader once, we have sufficient leaders for 3 groups per week
Committee to discuss why 73 people not prepared to lead or mind
How do we reduce this/get more leaders for Winter Spins
76 - can navigate | 60 - need a routefile
Takeaway - Committee to discuss
Takeaway - There are COVID concerns we need to take into account

The process is a bit clumsy - but there is a goal to get this streamlined for the Winter spins
From the survey, we have a list of people willing to lead
On a Tuesday, I will mail everyone who volunteered to ask
Who is available on the coming weekend
Which days suits best to lead- Saturday or Sunday
Which group can you lead (Yellows / Whites / Either)
The objective is to facilitate members who volunteer to lead
It also helps to keep the numbers down at the meeting point if we spread over 2 days
By Thursday morning I create up to 4 events on RWGPS
(Sat Yellow, Sat White, Sun Yellow, Sun White)
I will publicise this whent its done so people can RSVP
Members can then go into RWGPS and RSVP to the spin for the day/colour of choice.
Each event will say how many people can be accepted (based on number of leadres)
People will be told the will receive a mail if they have been successful)
I will allocate up to 7 riders to each leader - based on RSVP time - first come first served
If we are oversubscribed I will operate a waitlist
I will allocate a destination to each group - and a suggested route
For summer spins we will work off a limited number of say, 6 destinations
This may be less "interesting" but will help people learn some routes
Groups will be dispatched to different destinations to avoid congestion at coffee stops
Any group leader is free to can go on a different route if the group are happy with that
There will be no formal spins on Bank Holiday Weekends
There will be no formal spins on the day that the touring group have a ride arranged
Not sure yet how this would work with dispatchers
It will take some time for this to settle down
Please be patient as we try to get it right
(Im still trying figure out best approach for allocating people to leaders on subsequent weekends - to minimise the number of different interactions.

To avoid large groups congregating it would be good if people could meet as shown in the picture below:

If you want to join a spin, please sign up for the relevant event on RWGPS
This will help us manage multiple spin groups, at different levels across two days.
Full instructions are in the post above
After you have done this the first time, signing on for subsequent weeks is a just a matter of 3 or 4 clicks.

If you dont register for a spin via RWGPS then you will not be allocated to a group for a spin at the weekend.

I apologise in advance if I’ve missed something in the instructions, I’ve volunteered to lead a spin (either white or yellow on Saturday, whichever you decide) so I haven’t registered on RGPS .. I hope that’s correct
Thanks for organizing, it’s great to be getting back to club spins
Regards
Ronan

When I got the mail from leadervolunteers I didnt want to make them go through another step. We will figure out a way to streamline the process as we go forward.
