I was wondering. You appeared on the start line about 5 seconds before the start, but no move from you. It would have been a different race if you had made it, though I’m sure the podium would have turned out the same.Sorry lads, I was on the line twice after reboots but didnt make the start

Replied by Dave Mc on topic RGT club league finale- Stelvio handicap
We are finishing up our online league this Thursday night, with a hillclimb handicap on Stelvio:
Part of the message is hidden for the guests. Please log in or register to see it.
Handicaps will be based on your best performances to date by watt per kilo. If you are planning to ride please put your entry in earlier rather than later to give me time to figure out your individual handicap.
For reference sake, Limit is likely to be 2.8 W/Kg for a predicted time of 1:16:11, and Scratch should be 4.6 W/Kg for a time of 48:17.

I'll update the handicaps here when people enter, so you'll know in advance what you have to do. For the power to weight I'm taking the best race result I can find for each rider, but if I've got it wrong please do let me know.
For any of the later riders who are worrying about sitting stationary on the start line for 10/20/30 minutes, my suggestion is to disconnect your trainer or Powermeter from the app, do your warm up while you are waiting out your handicap, reconnect 30 seconds before your start time and you're ready to go. Do make sure you've entered the race before the overall start time though, regardless of how long or short your handicap is.
W/Kg... | Name | Handicap... | Target time |
3.0 | Barry Redmond | 00:00 | 01:11:26 |
3.1 | 02:24 | 01:09:02 | |
3.2 | Dick O'Brien | 04:13 | 01:07:13 |
3.3 | Dmitri Griffin | 06:03 | 01:05:23 |
3.4 | Fergal Quinn | 08:05 | 01:03:21 |
3.5 | 09:33 | 01:01:53 | |
3.6 | 11:08 | 01:00:18 | |
3.7 | Colum Bradley | 12:47 | 00:58:39 |
3.8 | Peadar Corbally | 14:07 | 00:57:19 |
3.9 | 15:23 | 00:56:03 | |
4.0 | Fionn Sheridan | 16:46 | 00:54:40 |
4.1 | Dave McLoughlin | 17:54 | 00:53:32 |

Huge thanks to Dave Mc for organising the online races over the last few months. I really enjoyed them. I know there was work involved to keep it going every week, so thanks again.

A suspenseful night on the Stelvio with the final starter - Dave Mc - nearly 20 minutes behind the early leader Barry Redmond.
However it was the next rider on the start list who would push his way up the legendary Italian climb, Dick O'Brien overhauled Redmond about a third of the way up the climb and never looked back.
Not always the favourite for a hill climb, the handicapped nature of this particular event allowed O'Brien to put his pure power to good use and propel himself to the finish line in the primary position.
Redmond kept the pressure on from behind but had to settle for silver, his third of the tournament. And Dave Mc came all the way from behind to take third at the top for his best result of the virtual summer league.
1 Dick O'Brien (SS)
2 Barry Redmond (L)
3 Dave McLoughlin (S)
4 Fionn Sheridan (SS)
5 Peadar Corbally (SS)
6 Colum Bradley (L)

Many thanks to Dave for organizing an excellent league. It went a long way towards making up for the loss of real world racing and was provided great motivation to keep the training going.
I'm not sure whether last night's handicapping was generous or sadistic. I realised about a third of the way up that I probably had a sniff of the win but that it would require maintaining the same effort for another forty minutes. Those forty minutes can only be described as deeply unpleasant.

You know what they say Dick - if it wasn't "deeply unpleasant" you weren't going hard enough.
Congrats on winning both that race and the virtual league!
For me, I hit sustained 1 hour power values that I haven't seen for quite a few years. It was all about trying to beat the handicapper.

Thanks a million to Dave for organising and to Brian for his reports and keeping the spreadsheet honest.
I don't know what happened to me last night, had hoped for better. I think my best form was at the start of the league!
Congrats to Dick on his win last night and on the overall.
