A big thank you to the 50-ish riders who rode out with us in our quest to slay this year’s Monster; The Leviathan.
See you on April 10th 2020, when we will once again unite under one banner to slay a Monster, this time The Megalodon shall feel our mighty wrath.
I just want everyone to know that I organised the weather.
Cast thy eye upon the weather that Donal organised last year, and henceforth speak only of False Prophets and soon to be Usurped Kings.
It was a good group with Philip, Niamh, Cora, Alex and Paul. Until Alex rode off into the sunset with my new Vegan Friend.
With early company from Lisa, Jimmy, Evan, Grainne, Anne Marie and Kippure Darragh.
Hall of Fame Nominations:
* Alex (#TeamPotatoPower) for the impromptu Pilates class on Turlock Hill.
* Everyone who rocked out in full winter kit, and came home as tanned as a Level 50 Paladin World of Warcraft player.
Unsung Hero’s of the Day were the lads who set the pace up Cruagh to the Featherbeds, it was very steady and sensible.

Just a month's notice on this, in case you need to book the day off work.
I'll probably be in Belgium (CoronaVirus Permitting), so can someone else post about the Good Friday Monster, and take responsibility to start the dispatch on the day?
The dispatch is just "Loud Whistle. Are we waiting for anyone to arrive? Take it easy at the start, it's a long day. LET'S ROLL."
Last year's announcement post, is here with the route and gpx file .

All welcome to slay the monster
Just posting this here before this evening's Summer Season Launch, in the hopes that it sparks some conversation around the topic.
Also in case you need a month's notice to book the day off work, as it's not an official Bank Holiday, some companies choose to observe it, others don't.
For anyone unaware, near the end of the summer, there's a long spin called "Da Beast", so keep an eye out for that in August/September.
I won't be in shape to attend the spin, so someone needs to handle the dispatch, which is just a case of:
Multiple colour-fluid groups, they'll sort themselves out on Cruagh."Loud Whistle. Are we waiting for anyone to arrive? Take it easy at the start, it's a long day. LET'S ROLL."
Route and Weather
Strava Route: Good Friday Monster .
GPX File: GoodFridayMonster.gpx
145km and 2800m approx
It will be 4-5pm before you get home.
MyWindSock: Good Friday Monster . Set the Date, click Weather, click "View how the Weather evolves."
Segment 1: Cruagh, Featherbeds, Sally Gap, Laragh.
Segment 2: Shay Elliot, Sliabh Mann, Brown Mountain, Shay Elliot, Laragh.
Segment 3: (Weather Permitting) Wicklow Gap, Turlough hill, Laragh.
Segment 4: Glenmacnass, Sally Gap, Featherbeds, Home.
Obviously make sensible choices on route diversions, where necessary. It might be prudent to go to the Climbers Inn on the other side of Shay Elliott to shave some time off waiting in the queue in Clodagh's.
If you're not confident on completing the whole spin, or need to be back earlier, remix the segments for a shorter Mini-Monster.
This spin has a large history, that you can add to.
Details on the history of the Spin , some hall of fame exploits.

It's not a public holiday, so you'll probably likely need to book it off work, or trade On-Call roster positions.
To celebrate the finishing of "Attack on Titan", I propose that this year's monster is an Abnormal Titan, and that we all enlist in the Survey Corps to assist Captain Levi in tackling this beast.

All welcome to slay the monster
As I mentioned at the Summer Launch Night, the route is Modular, so you're welcome to do as you want, and pick your own turn off point. There will be many more who have the same intention.
I hope to be at the startline for the dispatch, which is just a case of, otherwise someone else can:
Mass Start, Multiple colour-fluid groups, they'll sort themselves out on Cruagh."Loud Whistle. Are we waiting for anyone to arrive? Take it easy at the start, it's a long day. LET'S ROLL."

…or rather to legs.
Hi all, this is just an advance notice that the Good Friday Monster will be on Friday the 29th of March.
It's not a public holiday, so you may need to book it off work, or trade On-Call roster positions.
--
As 2024 is the Chinese Year of the Dragon, the monster this year is a Dragon.
Alduin returns!
Only the Dragonborn Peloton can slay him and save the world.
To remain adventurers, please avoid Arrows to the Knee.

As for the rest of the In-Forum-Al Spins:
The 12 Peaks is provisionally scheduled for June 22nd, and
The Tour De Beast is provisionally penciled for August 17th.
I'll try to figure out a way around Brown Mountain on these routes.

FWIW
The Mile High 69er
(ie one mile of ascent in 69km) is on the Winter spin schedule for Sunday 11th Feb.
I'm resisting the pressure to drop it
Would love to see more people attempt that did last year

This year, we're skipping the Brown Mountain loop, and just pulling a U-turn at the foot of Sliabh Mann. The surface is on Brown Mountain is too poor.
