Club RR Champs, Mondello, 23rd July

Most of you know the deal by now - it's a championship event, with medals and quite a large trophy up for grabs for the overall winner. Medals will be awarded to men and women, but only if 5 of the gender sign on.

The race will be starting in Mondello at 7.30pm sharp. Sign-on will close at 7.20pm. If you can get to Corkagh Park for crits, Mondello is further out along the N7. Last year the race was an hour plus a couple of laps.

The later start will hopefully facilitate people getting out to the race.

People can use this thread to car pool, or arrange to cycle out together if they have an early finish. If someone is able to drive the club car out and take several bodies and bikes, that'd be really useful.

I have been asked by Mondello Park to stress to all members that it is absolutely forbidden to take your car for a spin around the track either before or after our race. (We are only permitted to drive on the track in the event that we need to deal with an incident).

Driving on the track could have serious insurance implications for Mondello Park and the driver concerned if it has not been pre-booked and I have given an undertaking on behalf of the club that this will not happen.

And let me the first to ask for a lift out, though I'll be making my own way home.

After a chat with last week's race organisers, Sean Higgins has been upgraded to SL. Having the legs to hang on in a road race run in gusty conditions, with a lot of rain, and combined with a storming performance in the 10TT Champs when he beat all of SL (except Dave Mc), he's clearly able for the next level up. Well done Sean!

As per the mail I sent last night, bring your bike and kit, and we'll see what we can do.

However, your first duty is to marshal, so while you can hope for the best, prepare for the worst. The organiser will make the call on the night.

Don't forget tickets on sale after the race tonight - try to bring exact change for Ann!

A bunch finish tonight, with Valdis leading it out from the final corner and holding on for bronze, and two of the club's fast finishers taking the top podium spots.

There were only 4 women, just shy of the minimum 5 needed for a championship, but full recognition to our women's winner Helen Horan!

Many thanks to Damien Long for the running of tonight's race, and Ronnie Brannigan for his help on the finish line - it was a tight call between 2nd and 3rd!

Don't keep us in suspense, who were second and third?

I wasn't given those results, but I believe Aideen Keenan was 2nd, and Ciara Kinch was 3rd.
