This thread is for questions and updates related to the Wicklow 100 Training group for FIRST TIMERS.


Sign up criteria:
• Open to members who have not yet completed a W100
• Already able to do 65km plus, comfortably
• 10 week programme from 7 April to event on 10 June
• Saturday mornings from TSB car park, Dundrum, at 08:30 sharp
• Led by experienced leaders

If you signed on at the Leisure Launch, 12th March, you are guaranteed a place, however to complete the process you must register on the link below.

Hi all.
LATEST NEWS
There has been great interest in the training groups this year with 156 people signing up at our launch night last Monday.

For those people, your place will be held until midnight on Sunday 18th March.

If you are one of the 156 and haven’t done so already, you now need to secure your place by signing up online.

If you have not signed up by Sunday we will assume you have changed your mind about joining a group and we will remove your name from Monday night’s list.

The Leisure committee are currently finalising leaders for each training group and as some of those are filling up fast, they may have to close soon.

Hello, I didn’t realize the sign up would be via the forum. I was looking out for an email or a post in the news section of the website. I have just registered my interested via the above link but hopefully I have not lost my placing having signed up last Monday in the Union Cafe.

Wicklow 100 Training Group 2018


Who’s it for

The primary aim of this group is to give white and yellow - paced cyclists a helping hand on the way to completing their first Wicklow 100km, or as a repeater.

• First-timer for the Wicklow 100 (or similar events), or repeater
• Have participated in Orwell spins over the winter
• Already comfortable cycling in a group at white pace for~60kms (or more)…
• …but not ready to jump for the WW200 this year (more than twice as hard)
• Motivated and committed to training consistently for the 10 weeks from 7th April to 10th June
• Up for a bit of craic!

• Weekend group spin (organised)
• 10 x Saturdays at 08:30 from PTSB Car Park Dundrum
• 3½-5 hours (70-90km)
• We’ll try to include an interesting variety of routes and ‘lesser-known roads’
• Mid-week training (in your own time)
• 1-2 short (1½-2 hour) sessions per week
• Hill repeats to build strength in April

Before April
• Get your bike serviced
• New tubes and tyres
• Replace brake pads, cables …..if required

Compulsory for every ride

• Pump
• 2 tubes
• Tyre leavers
• Water bottle (2 on longer spins or hotter days)
• Food to eat during spin (banana, bar, jellies…)
• Gloves appropriate to the expected weather conditions
• Packable rain jacket – even on warm days
• Mobile phone, fully charged
• Emergency cash (€10)

The leaders signed up so far, The Coach himself, Denis Gleason, and that man from west Pat “Gaillimh” Macken, and the double act of Colm & Colm F. More leaders are being recruited.

Hi Colm - I did the sign-up on March 24th and just today completed my Orwell membership (after the Pathways course). Could you confirm whether I'm signed up for this training group? Thanks.
