Not sure this belongs in "Leisure" :-) but the Mick Byrne is upon us again, taking place on the coming Sunday.

I will talk about the 200, and others may want to pitch in about the 160 and 100. The MB200 is one of the longest (in duration) and toughest sportives in the calendar, but it is a great day out and for me at least, on of the main events of the year to look forward to.

Because of the terrain and the relatively small numbers, it's easy to end up on your own at some point on the ride. Not a huge deal if you do, but better not to, hence this post. We have a good number of Orwells doing the 200, and with a bit of planning we can try to ensure that no-one gets left on their own.

We will likely have people riding this at two different pace levels (at least) - faster orange and not-so-fast (but not dawdling around either) orange. If people want to post on here as to their likely preference, we can meet up at the start and try to stay together as we go around, or at least if we do split up, we agree it rather than inadvertently leaving someone behind.

For me, I am looking at the not-so-fast orange, looking at an elapsed time of between 9 and 10 hours, 20-22 km/h, arriving back to Dalkey between 5 and 6 pm. Hopefully the quicker end on that spectrum, but you never know.

For those who haven't done it before, it's best to approach it in pieces, 10-20k at a time, one hill at a time. Don't think any further ahead than that, except to remind yourself not to get carried away at the start, as there's a lot of cycling to do.

See you in Dalkey!

Great stuff Eric!

And just to clarify, the speed I quoted is an average that includes stopping time, so the moving speed would be more like 23-24km/h.
