Hi all,

This is a unique opportunity to do a 90km sportive that conveniently starts and finishes on our own turf, and raise some much needed funds for a very worthy cause at the same time.

Rooting4Ros is being organised by the friends and family of Ros Lynch, a young man who suffered a serious accident in Croatia in August 2015. Ros sustained a neck vertebrae fracture, which has resulted in spinal cord injuries. While we look ahead to a summer of cycling he remains hospitalised under intensive Neurological care and his care needs are expected to be long term.

The spin starts and finishes in Terenure College Rugby Club. There will be changing room and shower facilities available, along with light refreshments at the finish. The route is Stocking Lane, Sally Gap, Laragh and home via Roundwood, Long Hill and Enniskerry.

The Wicklow 100 training group is taking part in this event as our last hilly spin before the big day two weeks later. At 90kms with 1,250m of climbing it's perfect for us that weekend. To get the kms and metres in, for 13kms after Laragh we will deviate slightly from the main route, taking the parallel (and picturesque) Lough Dan road - see here: ridewithgps.com/routes/13264460.

Anyone who is not doing the Ring of Beara or Tour of Connemara is more than welcome to join our Orwell peleton on the day. We will be keeping to a civilised Yellow pace (~22kph). Other groups of course are free to go at whatever pace suits.

Registration is now open at www.rooting4ros.com. If you wish to receive a sponsorship card, provide your postal address when registering. Alternatively the organisers are happy to receive a €30 donation on the day. To avail of this option simply add '(Orwell Wheelers)' after your name - e.g. Joe Bloggs (Orwell Wheelers) and type 'N/A' in the Address box.

Please post here if you are doing the spin, so we have an idea of the Orwell numbers.

Hope you can join us on the day!

Just giving this a bump. 15 Orwells signed up so far! If you're not doing Beara or Connemara and fancy a 90km spin on Saturday 28th May this is a great option - starts and finishes in Terenure and for a good cause too. All welcome.

Drop me an email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and I'll add your name to the Orwell list - no need to register separately. Pay on the day - €30.

OK, 17 Orwells doing this so far. Meeting at 8:45 at Yellow House for those not familiar with how to get to Terenure College Rugby Club (off Greenlea Road, not school entrance on Templeogue Road). Otherwise go to the rugby club for 9:00 to register. Mention Orwell and pay your €30. No need for Orwells to pre-register on the website.

Handiest Sportive point of the year - to and from our own back yard! All welcome to turn up on the day.

See you there

Derek
