Folks
Is there anyone thinking of dong the "Orwell Dublin-Meath-Kildare 200" Audax this year. It may seem early in the year but it is an easy 200 as the route is flat enough.
Orwell 200 link.

I wasn't thinking about it but now I am. Thanks Fergal :)
It's very flat isn't it? So I'd be looking to do something like a 27 or 28 kph pace or more. I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but if I cycle too gently for long periods of time I get a sore lower back. Maybe I don't tense my core if I'm taking it very easy, or maybe it's my legs not taking enough of my weight. Whatever it is, it's a killer after a couple of hours.
What sort of pace were you thinking about yourself?

I was planning to do it also, but maybe not at the projected kmh! It is a handy way of putting milage in the legs - yellow pace....

Greg: Not sure will I be doing an average speed of 27+ it would be more like 25 but there is always a possibility of that changing.

Hi Greg, a large group of us did it last year at an average of nearly 30kph, big head wind on the way out but it blew us home. Not going to make it this year as am away that week with a few of the other
half-wheelers.
It's a great day out for everyone, as there were pace groups for different speeds!

I'd be interested in doing this one. I'd try and match Greg's suggested avg but might have to solo home a bit easier over the last 40k or so. How many coffee stops on an Audax?

I'm in..........last years cycle was reminiscent of playing football in Ballybunion......... you could be 15 points down at half time after weathering a gale and win the game by 7 or 8 points .............finish smiling and all that
Anyone know why the name change - this used to be the National 200 afaik ? It goes through Westmeath, Offaly and Laois or is there a new route but the last years route was inadvertently uploaded ?

Does anyone know how you actually enter the cycle? Is there an online registration page?
Thanks

There has been no change of name or route- it has always been called the Orwell 200 and that's what it stays. The "Dublin-Meath-Kildare" bit was a vague description when I was initially applying for the route in 2014, I've just given up on trying to correct it!
Warren Cray asked:
Audax Ireland standard entry form.
Download the form from the Audax Ireland site, and then you can either e-mail it to me on This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and pay by Paypal, drop it into the shop, or post it to me at 11 Morning Star Road, Maryland, Dublin 8.
Price is €5, plus optional €5 for a medal which can be paid on finishing.
