Save the Roche GP! New race organisers needed was created by Dick O'Brien
The Stephen Roche GP is due to take place on Wednesday 21 June this year. As most of you know, it is one of the most popular events the club runs and caters for competitors from Under-8 right up to Elite Seniors.

The current race organisers are stepping down and need to handover to this year to a new team to run the race in 2024 and subsequent years.

If nobody volunteers to take the reins, this year’s race WILL NOT go ahead.

Ideally, the job is suited to one lead organiser with one or two people assisting. A lot of the work involved goes into the preparation, such as doing the necessary paperwork with Cycling Ireland, securing a road closure order from the council, liaising with the Guards, hiring barriers etc. Closer to the event, the focus will be on ensuring you have enough marshals and helpers on the night to run a successful event.

The good news is that Orwell has been running the Roche GP for years and there’s very much a set process for running the event and, once you learn the ropes, it should be very doable for any capable person who’s enthusiastic about the event.

If you’re interested in taking on the role, contact club president Denis Gleeson or racing reps Dick O’Brien or Orla Hendron.
