Sudden death of club member - Cathal O Carroll was created by Colm Featherstone
It is with our deepest sympathy that the President, Committee, and all members of Orwell Wheelers Cycling Club offer our sincerest condolences to the family of club member Cathal O’Carroll who died suddenly at the weekend.

Cathal is particularly remembered for his great generosity in assisting with the clubs ongoing Ukrainian Bike appeal, and indeed his help only this weekend on the the Peter Mc Verry cycle to Wexford.

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

The following are a selection of messages that were posted on an Orwell Wheelers Leisure What’s App group.

Some very sad news. Orwell club member Cathal O'Carroll and owner of The Spokesman Mobile Bike repair unit, died suddenly yesterday.
Cathal was part of the team offering free repairs for bikes donated to the Ukrainian Bike Project.
He messaged me over the weekend offering a few days next week, and also sent me some pictures from where he was working as a bike mechanic on The Peter Mc Verry Cycle.

That’s awful. May Cathal rest in peace.

Dreadful. Shocking news indeed.

That is awful news. He was an amazing man always so obliging. Came to the house a couple of weeks ago to service the bikes. May he Rest in Peace.

May he rest in peace & be rewarded for all his good deeds.

So saddened to hear that. May he rest in peace.

May he rest in peace. It sounds like he has left such a legacy. :-(

I only passed him last week, working away on a bike in someone's front garden. RIP Cathal.

So sorry to hear this… a very kind and obliging man. RIP

So very sad. Our thoughts are with his family and friends. RIP Cathal.

Only got to know Cathal the last few years, but a lovely kind gentle guy. Always seemed to be smiling and in good form, generous and thoughtful, and passionate about bikes and cars. He will be missed.

Sad news indeed but a Life well lived. RIP Cathal

Sad news indeed. May his deeds be the light of change for those Ukrainian families! RIP

Very sad news to hear this, Cathal was a character and has been around cycling for a good few years now as a rider and with his Spokesman business, he will be dearly missed by lots. His father was the cameraman on the Old Nissan Classic Tour of Ireland races in the 80s and early 90s, Cathal was around cycling a long time. May he rest in peace and condolences to his family.

Cathal was a member in Sorrento CC when I was there and we were fellow members of Orwell Wheelers for too short a time.
As well as his lifelong love of cycling he was a passionate motorsport fan, a long time competitor in racing, historic rallying and latterly test trials.
His dad was one of RTE's senior sports producers and directors for over thirty years and actually gave me my start in both print and broadcast media. Cathal was part of the crew running tapes in those innovative Nissan Classics broadcasts back in the 80s.
He was a lovely, lovely man and he's gone far too soon.

Take Them With You

If someone you love did not make it on that trip,
You can take it for them with them.

If someone you love did not witness that milestone,
You can show them anytime you like.

If someone you love did not get to do their living,
You can finish their dreams on their behalf.

The beautiful thing about love, you see,
Is that death need not stop life.

If you carry someone in your heart,
You can take them with you,
Anywhere you like.
