Women's Racing

Orwell women have a growing presence in racing in the Dublin area and around the country, achieving and exceeding their goals at many different levels.

Emily Brick had a great run of form to win the race in Corkagh Park, come second in the Club League and win in Donore..

Sometimes among all the reports of popping champagne corks on the top step of the podium, it’s easy to forget that races contain many other stories – stories of tenacity, teamwork, comradery…. and sometimes just good old fashioned hilarity!

Orwell Wheelers Training Camp took place on Saturday January 23rd. The group of twenty Orwell Wheelers alongside organisers Stephen O’Shea and Ann Horan with coaches Fiona Meade and Orla Hendron took off from Dundrum at 9am cycling to Bunclody via Blessington and Baltinglass.

It's been a couple of months since the apex of the women's road racing, An Post Rás na mBan came and went in a flurry of activity and it's a good time to reflect on a couple of typically dogged and superbly athletic performances from two of the club's most talented vets.

We're getting close to the 2015 World Track Masters event, so the time is ripe for a trip down memory lane. At the event last year, Orla Hendron claimed another World Championship title to add to her 2010 gold, this time in the 2k Pursuit. She also earned a brace of silver medals from the Scratch and Points events. If you've forgotten the buzz at the time, or weren't in the club, have a quick read below.
