Geoghegan moves into points lead

Zoo Hair Salon Women's National League Round 4, Tydavnet, Co. Monaghan
Sunday 24th May 2009

Michelle Geoghegan just missed out on top spot in the latest round of the Zoo Salon Women's National League in Tydavnet near Emyvale in County Monaghan on Sunday, but the Orwell star's third top two placing from the opening four rounds was still good enough to move her level at the top of the points standings.

Geoghegan set up a four woman break with a counter after clubmate Orla Hendron was dragged back at half distance in the 54km race and despite the move containing some of the heavy firepower in Irish women's racing, it was ultimately shut down.

Hendron later soloed across to Kay Hack and they were joined by Geraldine Gill for what was developing into a three up scrap for the win. The group behind remained vigilant, however, and it ultimately came down to a group sprint for the honours taken by Heather Wilson with Geoghegan second.

Geoghegan and Jennifer O'Reilly (Ravens) are now level on points at the top with just one round remaining, the Sean Nolan Meath Grand Prix on 14th June.
