Dillon and McNally on the podium in Dundalk

Leinster Road Race Championships, Dundalk, Co. Louth, Sunday 13th September

Veteran stars John Dillon and Stephen McNally produced fine medal winning performances for Orwell Wheelers in last weekend's Leinster Championships in Dundalk.

Dillon showed the value of his relentless big gear, mile munching approach to training by powering to the silver medal in the time trial. Dillon's 58.03 was good enough for second behind race winner John Oram (Usher Irish Road Club) in Saturday's 40km test with Lucan's Brian Cunningham three seconds slower.

In Sunday's road race Stephen McNally finished eighth overall and second Vet in a race of attrition over ten 8km laps of the Dundalk by-pass circuit. McNally was part of a strong group that moved clear of the Vets group with the aid of the break from the 1st and 2nd Cats. After a further split after they had caught the 3rd Cat bunch, McNally eventually finished second in the second group on the road for eighth and a hard won Vets silver.
