Pleased to let you all know that we can finally run the (real, non-virtual) Club League in 2021.
This year's edition will be, unsurprisingly, a little different from previous years and will run for 8 weeks from Thursday June 10th.
The league will be run effectively as a stage-race similar to the format of the virtual league that was run earlier this year. There will be a General Classification, a Points Classification and a King Of The Mountains Classification.
Provisional schedule
Please bear in mind the order of the rounds is subject to change while we finalise arrangements.
1 - Corkagh Park criterium - June 10 (GC, Points)
2 - Pine Forest TT - June 17 (GC, Points)
3 - Corkagh Park criterium - June 24 (GC, Points)
4 - Brittas circuit road race - July 1 (GC, Points, KOM)
5 - Brittas circuit road race - July 8 (GC, Points, KOM)
6 - Mondello Park criterium - July 15 (GC, Points)
7 - Hill Climb, likely Ballinascorney but TBD - July 22 (GC, Points, KOM)
8 - Golden Ball road race - July 29 (GC, Points, KOM)
Details of points systems, KOM locations, handicaps, etc., will be shared closer to the first round.
This is the schedule as planned, however everyone will have to bear in mind that because of various covid-related factors there is always the possibility that cancellations or changes may occur.
Who can enter and how?
All club members are entitled to enter. Entry is FREE OF CHARGE. But you must be a fully paid up Orwell member for 2021 - if you haven't paid your membership and want to race, do it now.
You must also possess a Limited Competition licence or a Full Competition licence from CI.
PLEASE REPLY WITH YOUR NAME BELOW IF YOU WANT TO REGISTER FOR THE LEAGUE.
Individual race registration will take place before each round. League registration will close at 23:59:59 on June 9th. No late entries and no exceptions made.
Marshalling
By registering, you agree to marshal at least one race. If you don't intend to marshal, please don't register your name, as it will be added to the marshalling roster once you do. I'm hoping that numbers will be sufficient that no-one has to marshal any more than one race.
Marshalling is absolutely key to this going successfully, even more so than in previous years. So if you don't fulfil your marshalling responsibilites, you will be removed immediately and without appeal from this year's league, as well as next year's.
Marshalling slots will be allocated once we have confirmed registrations.
Closing words
Some of the above words re marshalling may seem off-putting, but we run this league with the intention of everyone enjoying as much as possible. I am very keen that we open this to as broad a section of the club's membership as we can.
If you don't normally race, please feel absolutely more than free to enter. The league is competitive but there is always a friendly and companionable feel to it, and that's something I really want to focus on.
Regardless of your age, gender, strength, etc., the league is for you so don't hesitate to be part of it. There's a place for everyone.
As touched on above, there is still a potential whirlwind of obstacles that can come our way in terms of organisation, restrictions, and so on. So I would ask everyone for the patience and understanding in that regard.
Finally, and most importantly, please enjoy. And please spread the word.

I don't drive, so not sure what that means in terms of marshaling for a place like Mondello.

For your own information if you intend to do the club league race or any open races there, it's easy to get to Mondello via train to Sallins & Naas. Maybe 15-20 minutes cycling from that station.
