Orange/Red Pre Winter Sunday Spins was created by Ken O'Neill
Hi All

A few of us are planning on starting a weekly Orange/Red Sunday spin in preparation for the official Sunday Winter Spins. First one is this Sunday meeting at Joe's @ 09:00. Route will be decided on the day approx 100 km Fast Orange/Red pace. Anyone interested is welcome to join us.

Since we already have an orange-paced spin going most Sunday mornings (www.orwellwheelers.org/forum/9-training/...pin-joe-daly-s-08-30), I'm wondering if we could have a single Sunday morning spin to accommodate Orange/Red. I wouldn't think that the numbers would be there to populate two spins at this time of year. I'm not particularly wedded to the 8.30 spins, indeed I am not there most weeks, but would prefer to see if we can a have single group to ensure we have good numbers.

Also, to be clear, I'm not suggesting that the 8.30 spin should prevail, rather that we have a combined one.I guess the pace would be key. We've been doing 24-25km/h average on a hilly spin, guessing it would be about 27-28 on a flat one. If the Orange/Red was looking at 30+ then it would be best to keep it separate.

I agree one larger group would be more practical. I would say the average will be anything between 28/30 kph on moderately flat terrain based on last years averages. Let's try a combined spin this Sunday meeting 09:00 at Joe's, If there's an issue with the pace we can split the group.

Great turnout this morning I think we had 18/19 in total. 115km with an average of 31kph on relatively flat terrain. Next Sunday meeting at Joe's @ 09:00. We are going to attempt one of the new winter routes that Jules has put together heading Northside. See you all then let's hope the weather is as good as today?

Does that route go over Chapelizod Bridge? If so, see you there. I reckon if you leave Joe's just after 9 you'll be there c. 9.30ish.

12 rolled out from Joe's this morning. 120k with an ave of 31kph over fairly flat terrain Summerhill/Enfield direction. Weather was perfect. Great route Jules for the winter spins road surface is very good on most of the route except when heading into Kilcock from Enfield. Same again next Sunday Joe's for 09:00 route TBC.

Approx 14 rolled out from Joe's yesterday morning mixture of Orange and Red. Some of the Orange Group turned off at Rathnew and 9 of us continued on down the coast road to Wicklow. 100km route with an average of 29kph and 1,000 mtr elevation. We had a puncture stop rather than a coffee stop. Good winter route provided Jules can organise all those traffic lights from Dundrum to Greystones to be green on the day. Same again for next Sunday 09:00 from Joe's route TBC.
