The weekend away will be from Friday 5th to Sunday 7th November. At the moment it looks like we'll be travelling to Killinard, Co Laois although that has yet to be confirmed. Watch the website for full details! You lining up for a big winter this year, Brian?

And thats all paid for is it? I mean B+B, evening meals, disco, use of the gym, chipper meal after the long spin Saturday, broomwagon to collect those who might be late working on the Friday and don't have a car!

All on the club? Thats very generous.

Gary - that all sounds like a low budget experience. Are there no nice hotels down there?

Folks

The only hotel that I could find in Killinard is the Heritage hotel and going by the rates that are advertised on the site it is not looking like a cheap weekend

Surely with the hotel industry the way it is we are in a good position to negotiate a group discount?

Also, didn't the Heritage go into receivership over the summer? I would be surprised if we couldn't find a good deal somewhere.

If we are looking at options Kilkenny would also be a great place. Great pubs and buzz around the town at night and good cycling around that area to develop our thirst for the evenings!!

I'm not able to go on the weekend away but i'd suggest you look at Carlingford. There is an adventure center up there that has houses with plenty of bunk-beds and it's cheap as chips. It's popular for hens and stags. It's a smashing little village and has great roads around the cooley peninsula for training.

You could even do some activities on the saturday afternoon! Kayaking, raft-building wind-surfing and all that craic...

Ok folks, I have news at last on this one. The weekend away will be based in the Abbey Court Hotel in Nenagh, €109 PPS for 2 B+B plus 1 dinner.

The Abbey court is 4star with pool and spa, and has been the venue for one of our weekends away not too long ago. Routes in the area include the Silvermines mountains and Lough Derg.

The plan is to drive down on the Friday evening, have a full day cycle on Saturday, night out Saturday, short spin on Sunday for those who want it before the drive home. Non-cycling partners are welcome.

If you want to book a spot for this let me know either through this thread or by e-mail.

In answer to all the thoughts upthread, the Heritage was the favourite venue at one point, it is under administration and so did offer a reasonable option pricewise, but could not accommodate the numbers that we were looking for. In any case, considering that our last two Winter weekends away have been to the Mount Wolsley and the Radisson I didn't think that price was the primary concern on these trips anymore.

Kilkenny is a good option, but we used to go there every year and have gotten tired of it. We'll be back there some year soon enough.

Carlingford was another place I was looking at, we've tried to organise trips there a number of times over the past few years and it has never worked out for various reasons. In fact anytime we try to organise anything slightly unorthodox it bombs. Cyclists these days just want a decent hotel with somewhere convenient to get hammered, and possibly, but not necessarily, somewhere nearby to cycle.

Are there decent nightclubs in Nenagh? Shame about KK, beautiful location, and lots of chic little shops ;-(
