National Omnium Champs. was created by Dave Mc
The National Omnium Championships are on this weekend in Sundrive, and as is very often the case there's plenty of Orwell interest.

In the men's competition Fionn Sheridan is sitting in 4th place overnight, 2 points off 3rd and only 5 points off the Silver medal position.

Orla Hendron is sitting one place better in the women's competition, in 3rd place holding Roisin Kennedy off by just one point.

Daniel McElroy is also competing in the men's race, currently sitting in 14th place.

There will be three more rounds in each competition tomorrow, with racing starting about 10:30 and wrapping up by 16:00, and spectators are very welcome. If anyone is interested I would very highly recommend going to watch and cheer on our riders, it is very spectator friendly and there will be lots of excitement, and the riders will certainly appreciate any support and encouragement.

Rain has stopped play this morning in Sundrive, so there's not much has happened yet. The one race to have taken place so far is the Women's pursuit, in which Orla placed third behind Susie Mitchell and Roisin Kennedy.

That leaves her in joint second place alongside Sarah Gunn with only two rounds to go, and Roisin only one point further back.

Next up, weather permitting is the Men's pursuit.

Men's pursuit done, Fionn placed 7th and Daniel 14th. Fionn remains 4th, though the gap up to third has grown to 5 points, and Daniel is sitting in 16th.

Women's Scratch is now underway.

Orla finishes 3rd in the Scratch race behind Roisin Kennedy and Susie Mitchell. Roisin moves up to second with Orla 1 point behind in 3rd, and Sarah drops to 4th 1 point further back. There's only the 500TT left for the Women, so Susie Mitchell probably has the Gold wrapped up barring a mishap, but there are still 3 riders left in the hunt for the Silver.

Men's Scratch to come, weather permitting.

Fionn takes a super second place in the Scratch race, behind Ben Delaney of South Dublin and ahead of John Lynch, Darragh Zaidan and Simon Ryan.

He remains in 4th, but he's back to a 2 point gap to the Bronze medal. Just the 500 to go now for the Women and Kilo for the Men, and it's going to be a real nailbiter of a finish with a real possibility of a medal in each.

3rd place in the 500TT gives Orla the Bronze medal with all riders finished. It's not her first Elite National medal and it hopefully won't be her last, but it was certainly one of the hardest fought.

Daniel is up next in the Kilo, still sitting 16th, and then it's fingers crossed for Fionn in about 20 minutes time.

1'14".26 for Fionn, which cuts about 4 seconds off his previous PB. The Bronze medal is probably just out of his reach, but he's just given himself every chance.

With all riders finished Fionn's time gives him 3rd in the Kilo and leaves him in an overall placing of 4th, 2 points off Bronze and 3 from Silver. Heartbreakingly close to his first Elite medal in his first year as Senior, but he gave absolutely everything he had all weekend.

Men's medals went to John Lynch, Simon Ryan, Darragh Zaidan, and the Women's to Susie Mitchell, Sarah Gunn and Orla Hendron.

There's been a recount in the Men's, and it looks like Fionn has taken the Bronze by 1 point from Zaidan!

Sums are still being rechecked, but right now the provisional standings in the Men's Omnium are Lynch- 16 points, Ryan- 23 points, Sheridan- 27 points and Zaidan on 28 points.

Second edit! There was another recount in the Women's race, and the upshot is that Orla has been upgraded to Silver! Woo-hoo!
